Three is a Magic Number

Three monitors are the way to go and thanks to my Q1 I am there. Basically I have three monitors, two hooked up to my workstation, and one on the Q1, then on my Vista workstation I have win2vnc hooked up to control my Q1 from the workstation keyboard. I created a wallpaper for the PCs to make one long scene between all three monitors for the atheistic feel.

Looking under my desk, I really need some cable management.

HID Drivers for the Q1

I know, I barely blog anymore, but my time has really been limited. I just had to post about the new HID drivers available for the Q1. CTitanic has worked to get some beta drivers made available for us Q1 owners, and believe me this turns the Q1 into a very usuable machine. It is worth going through the install.

Hands on with the Intel UMPC

SlashGear has some pics and video of the Intel Prototype UMPC. It is kind of an ugly device, but the keyboard pull out appears to be handy to have (even though keyboards on UMPCs really aren't needed). Check it out...

Samsung Q2 - Is Q1 Ultra

The word is the Q2 will be known as the Samsung Q1 Ultra. This UMPC has side finger pads for typing, although I find for most of my use I use the stylus. I do have the keyboard which is nice when I need to use the machine on the road, but when I'm in the house I primarily use the device for media and my finger or stylus works just fine.
Samsung Q2

Engadget has an inside scoop about the upcoming Q2 from Samsung which is the next generation UMPC device. Personally I think it looks a little crammed with thumbkeys built into the sides of the device. It sports a little more hard drive space and more power on the CPU. Check it out.
The Q1P with Vista has been officially released. According to today's press release:
Samsung Electronics America, Inc., a global leader in digital media and digital
convergence technologies, announces its newest Ultra-Mobile PC (UMPC) model, the
Q1P for Windows Vista, which is Samsung's first UMPC to qualify for Windows
Vista certification.
Since the Q1P and the Q1 differ in basically just the CPUs, we should start to see the drivers available on the Samsung site. We can only hope for HID drivers.
The review has a good overview of the skin and plenty of pictures for you to view.

I considered the skin, but it doesn't look like it could accommodate the extended battery on the Q1.

TabletKiosk Requests Your Help

Via GottaBeMobile.com:

It appears TabletKiosk's warehouse was robbed of a large amount of UMPCs and Tablet PCs, and are asking the community to be on the lookout for the thieves trying to fence the items on eBay, classified sites, and anywhere else. Here is the request from Gail Levy of TabletKiosk:

The Tablet PC and UMPC fan base is often referred to as a community. This is why I am reaching out to the online Tablet and UMPC fan base so that we can all respond in a unified front.

On Sunday, February 11, the TabletKiosk warehouse in Torrance, CA was robbed. The thieves stole a considerable number of Sahara Slate PCs, eo v7110s and eo v7210 units.

We are working with the police to catch the perpetrators and retrieve the stolen units and are exploring every possible avenue. This is why we are asking for assistance from the Tablet and UMPC community who often uncover significant information about Tablet PCs and UMPCs online.

The stolen units are both pre-configured and configured units as well as some customers’ personal machines.

If you find information about any eo UMPC or Sahara Slate PCs for sale which seem too good to be true, I would appreciate if you would send the information to my attention. A reward will be provided for the person who provides us with information leading to the culprit.
